Happy Monday!
Sigh...
I'm having to grasp to find a dose of happy for you today. It's been a heartbreaking and rough weekend for a lot of us around here.
If you missed the post, one of our editors found out on Friday that her son has Leukemia. Crystal is an integral part of the daily operations on the back side of this site. In the matter of 24 hours, her life literally got picked up, flipped around and sucker punched. Her bright and spunky 5 year old is now in a huge fight against a bully called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Life feels even more fragile than it already did. The question, "Why?" has been uttered more times this weekend by a lot of people than is fair.
But that does lead me to a happy! See? There IS always a happy in a situation.
The love that has poured out from The Internet has been amazing. It's left me speechless to watch.
There have been tweets using the #jackonaut hashtag. Jack's received tons of e-cards at his email address (the.jackonaut@gmail.com) and there are packages galore on the way to them.
Above all that, people are signing up left and right to be on the Marrow Donor registry through Be The Match. The count in my head of people that I am aware of who have their kits coming to them is around twenty. WOW!! Others have tried and didn't meet the preliminary requrements. That's ok. If you can't be on the registry, that's fine. Tell 3 more people about it.
I'm happy about this because the rallying of "The Internet People" shows me that there is truly good in this world. There are people who care -- about total strangers.
It's just amazing to me and makes me cry very happy tears.
