Most people go on vacation and bring back souvenirs.
I brought back the flu.
Clearly, I did it wrong.
Obviously, there's nothing happy about the flu. I've spent the last week pretty miserable, actually.
Well, until the other night.
When our good friends stopped by with a care package that included a new robe, tissues, chocolate, soup, and a puzzle book. I wanted to cry as I opened their over-sized card that had signatures from even their cat wishing me a speedy recovery.
And this weekend, another friend delivered a new-to-us loveseat. We've been wanting to upgrade our furniture but haven't been able to afford it. Things fell into place, though, and we're very happy.
Yesterday, our adopted family brought Chinese takeout to ease the blow of some bad news regarding our car that keeps breaking down. Then they offered to help make our less reliable car more functional while we work on finances to be able to afford a newer car.
Each of these things is a happy, each brought a smile to my face. But my DOH is something more.
It's the gratitude I'm flooded with as I curl up in my robe on my new loveseat with Chinese leftovers for lunch. It's not about the things, though they're nice and have certainly helped. It's about the love that was shown by our friends over and over again.
And love? It's always a happy.
